Essential guide to the Vaujany Winter Season

Skiing in Vaujany/Oz & the Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine

There has been considerable investment in the area over the last few years and as a result Vaujany has developed a ski area which includes snow canons covering all pistes, which ensures good skiing throughout the season. The 160 person cable car is a short drive from the chalet and gives immediate access to The Alpe d’Huez ‘Grand Domaine’, which includes the fantastic Sarenne - the longest black run in Europe. Snow is guaranteed due to the Pic Blanc Glacier (3330m).

From Vaujany you have access to the Massif des Grandes Rousses, the ski resort of Alpe d’Huez and surrounding resorts of Auris-en-Oisans, Huez-en-Oisans, Oz-en-Oisans and Villard Reculas. Highlights include Pic Blanc, the area's highest peak, at 3,300m, from where you can ski the longest black run in Europe, the world famous Sarenne (16km).

Ski area
The vast ski area of Vaujany and Alpe d'Huez includes 248km of marked pistes and 900 snow cannons which, along with the high altitude of the resort, ensures good ski conditions throughout the season. For beginners and experienced skiers alike this offers ideal leisure and high performance skiing. In total there are 84 lifts serving:

-
42 x Green runs
-
37 x Blue runs
-
39 x Red runs
-
17 x Black runs

Ski lessons
Vaujany is a great place to learn to ski or board whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced off-piste skier. For beginners ski school meets at the ski station in the centre of the village and from there you have quick access by the bubble to the Montfrais area which has plenty of green and blue runs.

The ESF - Ecole du Ski Francais (French Ski School) is based in the resort itself with offices inside the ski station. Over the past 25 years the Vaujany ESF team has established a fantastic reputation for quality teaching and happy clients. Ski school is on offer as well as tailored individual lessons. We, our friends and family have all used ESF over the years and we can highly recommend them. It is best to book ahead of your holiday to guarantee availability particularly in peak times.

Apres Ski
Leisure Centre
If you don't fancy skiing or want to relax at the end of the day we would highly recommend visiting the Espace Loisirs. There's an Olympic size pool with a superb, long tube slide and a separate children’s paddling pool. In the summer, the pool backs out onto a lovely sunny terrace so you can sunbathe on the loungers whilst the kids wear themselves out. In addition there is a:
-
Sauna and steam room
-
Sports hall offering a variety of activities including badminton and climbing wall
-
Gym and weights room with 20 machines
-
4 lane Ten Pin Bowling (book ahead, it is very popular)
-
The Stou bar & restaurant
Ice skating rink and ice hockey matches
In the same building is the International indoor ice rink where you can hire skates. The French teams come to play and practice ice-hockey, we highly recommend you go and watch one of the hockey matches, they are fast, furious and exciting - but whether winter or summer wrap up as its always cold!
